Dating on the internet : Beneficial or Hazardous?
One of the newest internet crazes’ is online dating. People can now register themselves to an online dating service to try and match with potential people who share the same interests. These services take the footwork out of trying to figure out who best suits you so you can concentrate on more important things. This is the intention of these services, to make your decision easier to make. Most of these websites require a small fee for their service, they usually charge anywhere from around twenty to one hundred dollars and/or a monthly fee of about ten dollars. However, some sites don’t charge anything and depend entirely on advertisements for revenue. These are the sites people should be most cautious of because security on these sites is usually at the minimum acquired level.
One thing that regular users of these sites say is that they enjoy sitting in the comfort and security of their own home. Dating other people through these online dating websites makes going to single bars and nightclubs a thing of the past. You can decide if you want things to go farther with an online date instead of going on a date only to find out you have nothing in common. This not only makes an uncomfortable situation more awkward, but it can also be quite expensive, depending on what you have planned for the evening. Another great point that was made about online dating is that you don’t have to go anywhere or dress up for the occasion – or dress at all for some.
Online dating must be catching on because it has slowly been the rise for the past ten years. It has steadily increased because sites that usually cost a small fee to register have special promotions. These promotions include that on certain months, registering will cost half of what they usually charge. Some websites who offer online dating services will allow free weekends during the month of February for the holiday Saint Valentine’s Day.
The one downfall about these services is that it attracts potential stalkers. It takes little common sense to realize that giving out personal information about yourself is something you just don’t do. This includes giving out your address and/or phone number to total strangers. There are scam artists that can really do some damage with very little information about you. They can get the most vital information about just by knowing what video store you rent movies from. Take it slow and don’t rush into anything you are unsure about.
