The first stage of dating can be romantic, magical, have you in the seventh cloud, and consume your total attention. After that first stage, a couple starts spending more time together, sharing a deeper relationship, and knowing more about what the other one is all about – what surrounds that person. This includes his/her immediate circle of family, friends, and furry companions.

There are many difficulties in a relationship, and how a couple deals with them, will determine a lasting relationship or a very short one. Every couple has disagreements over different topics and lifestyle arrangements, however when those disagreements revolved around loved ones, they become big boulders in the path to a long lasting relationship. These boulders can take the shape of friends, family, kids, and pets. For the purpose of this article, we will talk about pet disagreements, and how to handle these better.

If you are in a relationship that is getting more serious by the minute, and your significant one has pets, you will probably be spending a good amount of time around the furry friends. If you happen to dislike pets, you will be facing a serious situation and one that will have to be dealt with in the near future – like it or not. If you were pretending to get along with these pets because you were interested in getting deeper into the relationship, then your issue deepens. Third, if you were hoping that those pets would not be around for long, once you move in, then, you are in for a major surprise.

For many people their pets are like family. If your significant other has a pet and he/she happens to care a lot about it, then you will have to deal with the possibility that the pet in question will have to stay, and you will have to learn to either, love it or accept its presence. There are many issues with pets such as, jealous pets, unfriendly pets, or pets that are very dependent on its owner. In addition, there are owners that will schedule their lives around their pets – simply said, they come first. If you find yourself in the situation of dating someone in this possible scenario, you will have to learn to compromise with your lover – that is, if you want a happy relationship. If you have disagreements about pets taking too much part in your lover’s life, you have to be honest with him/her and express your feelings in a mature way looking to reach an understanding or middle ground. If you ask your lover to get rid of the pet, the relationship will suffer. Even when he/she gets rid of the beloved pet, resentment will start to grow between the two of you. On the other hand, many couples have broken up due to a pet – simply, the other person chose the pet over the lover.

Sometimes, a couple needs to find a way to combine their pets in one household. This does not present the issue mentioned above, as both happen to love pets, but it can present adjustment issues for pets and the couple, and quarrels about it.
